Rodney Bolton’s contribution to the Australian Film Industry
has spanned more than two decades.
After graduating from Film School, Rod began his film career initially as an Assistant Grip, on Feature Films; "Playing Beatie Bow", "The Blue Lightning" & "Initiation" (with D.P. Geoffrey Simpson ACS) then as Key Grip on the tele feature,"Coda", (with D.P. Dave Foreman ACS).
Having always had a keen interest in Photography & Cinematography, Rod worked his way into the Camera Department, firstly as Clapper Loader on the Mini Series, "The Shiralee", (again with Geoffrey Simpson ACS) & "The Battlers" (with D.P. to name but a few.
This led to many more camera assistant / focus pulling roles in TV commercials and TV series, such as "Good Guys, Bad Guys", & "Ocean Girl 4" (both with D.P. Craig Barden ACS).
During these times & between film projects Rod became the D.P. on many short films, winning a few ACS Awards along the way.
Back on larger productions; Rod soon moved into Camera Operating roles on a variety of projects, large and small, and
he enjoyed shooting 2nd Unit alongside some of the best Cinematographers in the business. He was also 2nd Unit Director on many of the "Murder Call" series 2 episodes.
He is now well established as a multi ACS (Australian Cinematographers Society) Award Winning Director of Photography.
